Turf Talk By: Geoff Sheffield
As we welcome a new year, the maintenance team extends our warmest wishes for a fantastic golf season ahead. We’re excited to share some updates about the course improvement projects we’ll be working on during January and February. While you may notice some ongoing work during your rounds, rest assured that we’re committed to minimizing disruptions and enhancing your overall experience.
Here’s a preview of the projects you may encounter:
1. Tree Removal and Limbing – Pacific #1
We’ll be removing and trimming trees on the right side of Pacific #1. This work is designed to improve airflow and sunlight exposure to Pacific #2 green, which will promote healthier turf and better playing conditions.
2. Temporary Closure of Pacific #2 (Jan 20-24 or Jan 27-31)
Pacific #2 will be closed for approximately one week to complete some essential upgrades:
- Sod will be removed between the green and the pond.
- We’ll repair the rock wall, which has sunk over the years.
- The collar dam, which has been preventing proper drainage from the green, will be removed.
Once the work is complete, this hole will feature a large “Ground Under Repair” area until early spring. These improvements will significantly enhance the playability and aesthetics of this hole.
3. Curbing Enhancements
We’ll be installing curbing at various tee and green walk-on/off areas. This will not only improve the ball’s lie around the greens but also help us successfully grow grass in areas that have been challenging in the past.
4. Garden Renovations
Expect to see some beautiful updates to the gardens at our front entrance and along the café wall. These enhancements will elevate the overall look and feel of the course.
